Why are toys for bulldogs different than any other dog toy?

We’ve found that Nylabones, Kong toys, and the Happy Pet Grubber to be the best three toys on the market for your bully.

Because of their durability, look and feel, quality and they seem to keep even the most curious of dogs entertained.

Things to consider when you’re buying toys for your dog

  • If you own another breed of dog you’ll be aware that you can buy them almost any toy and they’ll be happy as larry.
  • Bulldogs are fussy little toy pickers, and what’s more they seem to be chewing machines. With a normal dog you can go down to the pet shop and buy any old toy and happy days, even rawhides or pigs ears are a great choice.
  • But for when choosing the best toys for bulldogs, rawhides are a huge NO for bulldogs. I would stick to things that aren’t easily destructed, because bullies are notorious for just swallowing things whole or semi-whole and this leads to obstructions.
  • The last thing we want to do is recommend a toy which would cause your bulldog to come to harm, so it’s definitely best to keep them occupied with toys that they can’t destroy too easily!

So here’s our reviews of the 3 best toys for bulldogs

Kong Original Extreme Kong Dogs Chew Toy

The original of all work-to-eat toys, the Kong is a chew toy made of nearly indestructible rubber. It was inspired by dog Fritz’s owner who saw this uniquely shaped VW bus part as uniquely intriguing. Kongs can be stuffed with a wide variety of tasty treats.

Kong sells especially shaped treats and different things you can squeeze inside, but you can stuff it with whatever your dogs’ weakness might be: Yoghurt, Cheesy bits, wet dog food, peanut butter, sausage, or whatever floats your bulldogs boat. Yummy! This one is a timeless classic and they will last forever. An 8 out of 10

Nylabone Double Action Chew Bone Wolf

If you fancy keeping your doggies breath smelling of roses, or puppy breath (who wouldn’t want to keep that smell forever!) then this is the toy for you (Or for your bulldog of course!)

The green middle section of the toy is flavoured minty and the end bits of the toy is bacon flavoured – show me a bulldog that’s going to resist bacon!

The minty green middle bit promotes fresh breath and squeeky clean teeth. This toy has been vet approved and is the best-selling line in the US of A.

Whilst we love the simpleness of the design, it’s a rubber bone at the end of the day, so we’re going to give this one a 7 out of 10!

Happy Pet Grubber Bounce Fetch & Tug Dog Toy

The toy is shaped in a rugby ball shape which means that when you throw the ball, it bounces in an erratic fashion, basically like a daft mad bulldog! It’s perfect for medium to large breeds and the ball is ideal for a game of fetch.

We’re banking on this one to outlast all the others and because it’s bristled it will also keep your bullie’s teeth pearly white! Because of its unique design we’re giving this one a 9 out of 10

Conclusion

Sure we could have thrown any old toy at you and reviewed it, but the list we have here has been bulldog tried and tested. Needle sharp puppy teeth couldn’t manage to penetrate the kong, and it’s a tried and tested dog chew for you.

We recommend giving the Kong a try first but if your bulldog is bored of it then go for the happy grubber. That said, the chew bone wolf is a solid choice and one that we keep in our toy staple cupboard.

  1. Good advice on not giving rawhide to bulldogs. Mine almost choked to death on a piece of rawhide that came off. Luckily we could pull it out because it hadn’t gone that deep.
